Description
 Habits and hunting

The Pyrenean chamois is distinguished by its reddish coat in summer and pale gray in winter, with a black line running along its back and dark stripes on its face. Both males and females have curved horns, larger and thicker in males. Larger than the Cantabrian chamois, both in size and trophy. The Pyrenean chamois, also known as the chamois, measures around 70 cm at the withers and weighs 25-30 kg.

It lives in the high, steep mountainous areas of the Pyrenees in Catalonia and Aragon, where it seeks shelter in forests and forages on open slopes. This species is a symbol of the mountains and a highly valued trophy within the Iberian fauna. Our hunting days are always guided by local experts.

The rut of the chamois (Pyrenean chamois) occurs between the end of October and the beginning of December, with November being the most common month for the breeding season.

During this period, males compete for females and display very active behaviors, such as marking territory and fighting with other males to secure the right to mate. This time is very good for hunting large trophies.‍

The Pyrenean chamois or chamois is an agile animal that lives in steep areas of medium and high mountains in the Pyrenees. It takes refuge in forests or rocky areas to avoid extreme temperatures and feeds on grasses and shoots on open slopes. It is most active at dawn and dusk. During the rut, the males form large groups with the females and calves and become really aggressive among themselves, leading to long chases. Out of heat, they usually form small groups or even live alone.

The chamois hunt, appreciated for the challenge it entails and the beauty of the landscape, is carried out by stalking accompanied by expert guides who perfectly master the mountainous terrain. The day begins at dawn, ascending little by little until reaching the alpine zone, where the trees disappear. From that point, the slopes illuminated by the first rays of the sun are carefully examined. Suddenly, without warning, the first chamois appear, at which time the approach is prepared with maximum discretion to ensure a clean and accurate shot.‍
