Mouflon
Hunting mouflon in Spain is a highly appreciated option for international hunters looking for a high-quality trophy. In our areas, we get large trophies with horns of great curvature and span.
This bovine, with dark brown fur, stands out for its thin limbs and a semi-oval silhouette. Males have horns that grow throughout their lives, a characteristic white spot on their back and another facial spot that intensifies with age. Their average size reaches 70cm in height at the withers and a weight between 40 and 50 kg.
Introduced to Spain in the 1950s, the mouflon has successfully adapted to mountainous terrain and Iberian pastures. Currently, it lives mainly in Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Andalusia, the Valencian Community and the Pyrenees.
At Buck Down Expeditions, we offer perfect service, professional guides and top-notch accommodations, guaranteeing a unique and unforgettable hunting experience.
Hunting mouflon represents one of the greatest challenges for the demanding stalking hunter. This animal, with its sharp gaze and extremely elusive behavior, demands the best from everyone on each day of stalking. Its relatively small size, together with its natural distrust, makes approaching a good specimen an experience as demanding as it is rewarding.
On our selected farms, located in some of the most privileged environments in the country, hunting management and conservation have allowed the number and quality of mouflons to reach outstanding levels. This gives us the opportunity each season to shoot large males, with antlers that stand out for their size and shape, authentic trophies that every hunter dreams of achieving at some point in their life.
Mouflons usually form large groups, which makes approaching a select male even more complicated. They remain active for much of the day, adapting their behavior to the conditions of the terrain and pressure from predators or humans. Their reproductive cycle is concentrated between late autumn and early winter, when confrontations between males become more frequent and spectacular.
The mouflon diet is a varied plant diet of plant origin.
Stalking a large male mouflon is not only a test of skill and knowledge of the environment, but also a unique experience that connects the hunter with the purest and wildest nature of our mountains.
