At Buckdown Expeditions, we offer authentic Iberian deer hunting during the rut in some of the best areas of Spain: Palencia, Zamora, León. We have specimens from representative to trophy, sometimes even exceeding the 200 point barrier.
"La berrea", from September to the end of October, is the ideal time to enjoy an intense, authentic hunt with guaranteed success. The environment, the bellowing to impose their dominance and attract the females, as well as the great activity of the males fighting each other, make this hunt something unique that is difficult to explain with words alone.
The Iberian deer is lighter than the European deer, weighing around 150 kg on average, but it also offers spectacular trophies. It has reddish-brown fur in summer that darkens during winter.

The Iberian deer, more compact than its European relative, is one of the most emblematic species of big game hunting in Spain. Its elegant bearing, the beauty of its antlers and the environment where it lives make it a particularly valued trophy. However, its true greatness lies in the challenge of hunting it.
It is an extremely cautious animal, which moves stealthily and takes advantage of the first and last light of the day to move. Therefore, stalking requires precision, patience and experience, especially in high mountain terrain where each encounter is a challenge.
During the rut, when the large males break their silence with powerful bellows and expose themselves in search of females, is when opportunities open up for the hunter.
It is also one of the most exciting pieces in traditional Spanish montería. Feeling how the mountain breaks a few meters from the stand before showing itself into the clearing is an experience that leaves its mark.
